Defending champions of the Zenith Bank Women Basketball League, First Bank Basketball club of Lagos at the weekend defeated First Deepwater also of Lagos 84-53 to emerge champions of this year's competition.  It was a straight forward win for the bankers as they started the game with intent, winning all the quarter except the third quarters won by Deepwater. First Bank won the winning price money of N1.5m while the second place team were rewarded with N1.2m. IGP Queens defeated Dolphins Basketball Club in the third place match to cart home N1m for their endeavour. Speaking with our correspondent, centre for the winner, Atosu Upe, said they emerged champions due to their hard work and dedication while also promising to make the country proud when they play on the continent. APC Rubbishes Muiz Banire's suspension

The All Progressive Congress has annulled the suspension of its legal adviser, Muiz Banire (SAN). The party’s executive committee in Mushin Local Government Area of  Lagos State, through the acting secretary of Mushin LGA, Taofeek Ajani-Balogun, had announced Banire’s suspension, alleging that the legal adviser was engaged in “anti-party activities.” However, the APC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, released a statement that nullifies Banire’s suspension, explaining that only the national executive committee had the powers to suspend him. First DeepWater Beats Favourites Dolphins To Set Final Meet With First Bank In Zenith B’Ball League

First Deepwater recorded a surprise result in the semifinal of the Zenith Women Basketball League on Thursday by beating favourites, Dolphins, to qualify for the final. The impressive Deepwater girls won 70-57 to set up a crunch final with defending champion First Bank, that defeated IGP Queens 93-64 in the first semifinal also decided on Thursday. Deepwater were also no pushovers but in the past three seasons, it has always been Dolphins, First Bank final. The Aboderin ladies won two seasons back while the Elephant Girls won last year. Dolphins team apparently lost due to their inexperience as they filed to control the game when it mattered most especially towards in the third and final quarter of the match. First Bank coach Peter Ahmedu said the final would be an explosive encounter on Saturday at the National Stadium in Lagos. The Final Eight of the National Women Basketball League sponsored by Zenith Bank started on Monday at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos. First Deepwater defeated GT 2000 73-69 in a keenly contested encounter that kept the fans at the edge of their seats. Eight teams qualified for the Final Eight of the competition which started on April 10 in Abuja, Kaduna hosted the second phase while the third and fourth phases of the league took place in Asaba and Ibadan respectively. Apart from First Deepwater and GT 2000, other teams that qualified for the Final Eight are  defending champions First Bank Basketball Club of Lagos, IGP Queens of Lagos and Plateau Rocks of Jos. Others who also qualified for the Final 8 are former champions Dolphins of Lagos, Customs of Lagos and Delta Force of Asaba. All is set for the Final 8 of the 13th  Zenith Women Basketball League which is expected to start in Lagos this weekend. Sponsor of the event, Zenith Bank, has concluded arrangements to make the final phase a big show for all the teams and the fans of the game. Eight teams have qualified for the Final 8 of the competition after the conclusion of the third and fourth phases of the league which held in Asaba and Ibadan respectively. The eight teams are defending champions First Bank Basketball Club of Lagos, IGP Queens of Lagos, Ist Deep Water of Lagos and Plateau Rocks of Jos. Ayodele Fayose, governor of Ekiti state, has launched his presidential campaign on social media. The governor opened a Facebook page and a Twitter handle ahead of the 2019 general election. On the page, with the motto – ‘Strong, Reliable and Rugged’ – Fayose called on Nigerians to "behold their next president". He described himself with words like: ‘Pro Masses. Accessible. Ekiti State Governor. Chairman, PDP Governors’ Forum. Husband and Father.. He’s Peter (The Rock)’. His Twitter handle, @Oshoko2019, was dormant as of press time. The Executive Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, has lauded the Management of Zenith Bank Plc on its commitment to the development of the state through various corporate citizenship initiatives. The Governor gave the commendation at the commissioning of the Serenity Park and Gardens – a corporate social responsibility project undertaken by Zenith Bank Plc in collaboration with IRU-Victoria Island Local Council Development Area (LCDA) – situated at the Eko Hotel Roundabout, Victoria Island, Lagos on Friday, July 7. Ambode, who was represented at the commissioning by the State Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Babatunde Adejare, commended the Management of Zenith Bank for reconstructing the laybys and improving the aesthetics of the Ajose Adeogun/Eko Hotel environs.
